Alnmouth from the air- Parrot Disco
First visit to the beach near Alnmouth on a sunny but slightly windy day. The Disco can handle a bit of wind but I noticed it flying sideways against the wind on the return runs. Battery's dont last long either in these conditions. I had 4 battery's and made 4 video's each about 10 minutes long. The above is an edit made from just 1 video.
Alnmouth is such a scenic place but viewed from the air with the sea and beaches makes it even more attractive.

Edlingham Castle & Viaduct.

Edlingham. Just north of Alnwick in Northumberland. Stunning scenery set in a valley with a Castle, Church & Viaduct. The Castle is a drone no fly zone so made a point of not flying within the grounds. It could have been a better day weather wise as I had just taken off with the Disco, got to the Viaduct and it started to rain. Raindrops on the lens distorted the video on the return journey but ...
Souter Lighthouse - Fly Over
Переглядів 503 роки тому
The Souter Lighthouse on the Coast Road , Whitburn opened in 1871 and was the first lighthouse in the world designed and built to be powered by electricity. Decommissioned in 1988, this property is now managed and protected by the National Trust. The land surrounding the Lighthouse is a paradise for walkers, miles of coastline paths with great views out to sea. This was my first visit to Souter...
Widdrington Station Fly Over

Allways wanted to fly over Widdrington Station. A place I used to call home over 40 years ago. Spent most of my school holidays there from a very early age. How it has changed, new housing estates everywhere now and there still building. Going back all those years ago the house's looked all the same, now they have paved yards and extensions, nice gardens and they all look different and it looks...
The Bucket .

This bucket is the only remnant left on the former Stobswood Open Cast site. It was last used on the Ace of Spades dragline excavator which had a 300ft long boom and was able to carry 100 tons of rock, sand, clay to expose the coal below. It worked the site from 1992 to 2002 and moved more than 300 million tonnes of material on the 1,500-acre site. Bought by British Coal from manufacturers P & ...
Mantis Q Height Test. Flown over Stobswood & Widdrington Station.

The Mantis Q, not a bad little drone but not the best for it's camera quality due to the gimbal ...or lack of it . The horizontal range doesn't seem all that good , it can get to 280m and return automatically , other drones can go much further. I decided to try a vertical test and just kept it going and was very suprised to find how stable it was at quite a height. Even in a slight wind it held...

First visit to The Braid for a fly about with the Parrot Disco. Some nice views to take in. The Disco is not a drone as such ,but a polystyrene [foamy] electric plane with only 1 motor at the back of the craft. The wing span is around 54" from wing tip to wing tip and very lightweight .If ever the motor fails the craft just glides back to earth, not like a 4 motor drone that would drop from the ...
Dunstanburgh Castle - Parrot Disco - 25th May 2020

Bank holiday Monday, a visit to Craster, part of our beautiful coastline in Northumberland . Still on lockdown, nothing open, car parks closed. Took the Disco for a flight over my favourite castle. Was a bit windy. This first flight wasn't too bad but the second flight [not shown] made the Disco virtually fly sideways ,wind too strong so brough it back and packed up. Music by Scott Holmes.

Another picture in picture demo using OpenShot Video Editor. I really like this effect. No new footage though until I can get out and about again. Confined to barracks until this lockdown is over. A short video taken in the mid 80's of Dunston Power Station. Originally captured on a portable recorder and separate camera, before the days of HD camcorders. Knew the works pretty well as had to cross the line there between the pit and the brick works to get the bus from Widd Stn. All part of the early British disappearing manufacturing industry.

I normally fly lower than the loitering height which is set at 140m, but I was surprised to find the disco will fly a lot higher. The maximum height limitation in the UK is 120m (400'). The above video was flown for the short distance as a test and was quite high . I was aware of no other trafic in the air at the time. The Disco is very responsive and can drop in speed and height very quickly as you can see at the end of the video.

1st proper job I ever had, dam hard graft, started with Dave Green from Ashington, a German guy named Rudi was the foreman, scary dude, and Jimmy Farmer was the jack the lad and very popular with the women working there.

I remember D Green, he was on the presses when I worked there. Rudi Lux was the forman. Yes, Farmer was quite a lad. People worked there from all over the place, Ashington, Morpeth, Amble, Pegswood .etc ,there wasn't much else apart from the pits. It was all manual work, hard too. Some loved the brick machines, hundreds of bricks stacked on pallets all day long. I started on the Rodding, then went to the presses and finally the Hyster [ Fork lift]. I still have fond memories of the place and the era ....late 70's & early 80's

Excellent video, thank you for sharing! I was brought up at Widdrington Station and have distinct memories of the Brickyard, Screens and Opencast works. Now I find I'm spending more and more time researching and tracing evidence of our areas industrial past. Since a lot of the area around the screens has since been opencasted itself, this video has been very valuable to me! Quite a special place that. Some of that new construction they were doing in the photos can still be seen on the demolished patch. I'm not sure that the site is finished yet - it's actually in a fair location. Hidden yet close to a road network. Mining won't return and I'm sure the place can be put to good use. The machine actually had a shorter boom installed and was later sold and ended it’s life in Canada in recent years. I bought another a few years ago, imported from the US, it worked great, I had the crate set and spare wheel kit, the noise of the steering overload ratchet is what brings it all back.
